Middlefield, Ohio is home to the 2nd largest Amish community in the state. The Amish of Middlefield are of the usual Order Amish, Which is regarded as a stricter than most other orders. They are an exclusive people, however when you walk into their shops they are so friendly. Expect to hear a few stories and have a laugh or two when you shop. of late, My husband and I took a day trip to visit some of the Amish run stores in Middlefield and it was so much fun. Middlefield, Ohio is approximately 30 miles east of Cleveland. based in Geauga County, It is reckoned part of the Northeast Ohio region. It is would become a day trip from such places as Buffalo, Columbus, Youngstown, Erie, Pittsburgh, Detroit and other such points. Punderson Manor Resort and Conference Center and the Red Maple Inn are just a couple of the bed and breakfast alternatives.
our first stop was Hershberger's Housewares located at 15419 Madison Road in Middlefield (440 632 9065). It was a beautiful spring day and the driveway was lined with spinning wind socks of various patterns. they had a dog on a bicycle, A train and the assorted shapes. I would not wipe the smile from my face. When we walked in the store we noticed as soon as possible that it was so quiet, No cost to do business music or other sounds. The Amish do not use electricity, So it is amazing how quiet and peaceful their world is in comparison with ours. The light is all natural light and the chill was taken out of the air by a wood burning stove during the store.
The front of local store is the Maple Valley Bookstore full of Amish and Christian books. There were books for adults and children, greeting cards, standing and other paper goods. When you walk into the main part of the store you find this is not merely housewares. They have attire, totally Amish, however, many items for non Amish. The next section is stuffed with houseware items, which can include popcorn poppers, Canning resources, cookware, ravenscroft, Kitchen stocks, bowls, Textile items far more. Gardening and outdoor supplies are also available as well as family games (Family is really important to the Amish so doing things together is just as important).
The next area of the store was chocked full of baby items. Not only the items one may need for a new baby, But diaper bags, Soft coverlets, Adorable outfits and toys for babies and toddlers. Then you enter the "wax luminous intensity unit Room, This bright room full of windows holds so many candles from conglomerates such as Yankee Candles, Colonial candle lights and WoodWick along with. additionally, you will find beautiful gift items made from glass, gem and wood. UGG snow ground boots consider frames, metals and diamonds boxes, China patterns and wind chimes are just a few of the lovely items they carry. obtain, I wish we had planned more time to visit, there would be just so much to see.
Their hours are Monday through monday from 8:30 am until finally eventually 5:00 pm. Like all Amish organizations, They are closed every sunday and major holidays.
Our next stop was the Amish Home Craft Shop and Bakery established at 16860 Kinsman Road in Middlefield (440 632 1888). In this cozy shop you will see that handmade quilted items including bed quilts, Placemats, Table runners and also. Amish made baskets are plentiful as well as handmade Amish wood products (their toys, vague ideas, Shelves and more often). there is a section of the store devoted to Amish clothing, But you'll also find rugs, Shawls and coverlets.
Along the wall there are locally made Amish jams and jellies in addition pickled items. They in addition offer Nature Sunshine Herbs and Vitamins. On any given day you can see breads, finished pies, Fry pies (My husband's favorite), xmas crackers, cinnamon rolls, Cakes but more. in order to, really, Have tasted many of their items and have yet to have anything that isn't delicious. Our next stop was Mel's Shoes N More built at 16189 Burton Windsor Road in Middlefield (440 636 5815). We expected shoes but were happily surprised at how many shoes and styles they had. model shoes (Sketcher, Wolverine, or anything else,.,and so.) At really good prices. Both my husband and i bought brand new work boots two pairs for at total of $50.00. I mean fantastic pricing. they even teach carry items for the farm, Like barn galoshes, Harness etc. They have a large selection of hats, coats, Socks and girls bags. They really do have not only shoes.
Their hours are Monday as a Friday 8:30 am right until 5 pm and from 8:00 am just up until 3:00 pm on Baby Boots saturday.
Our last shopping stop during was at Yoder's Coleman located at 15890 Durkee Road in Huntsburg (what is right on the border of Middlefield). Their contact number is 440 636 6224. like most Amish phones, They live outside, So please let it ring or leave a message and they will phone you.
Yoder's Coleman makes a specialty of lamps, Lanterns, Stoves and irons and the repair and healing of Coleman products. had you been to think that was all they have, choosing wrong. they also have gas lighting options, Housewares, toys and games, Canning merchandise, decorative items and gifts (Like thomas Kinkade items), electric batteries, And lots more. when again, I wish we had more time to check out everything. there would be just too much to see.
the proprietor told us great stories, We laughed and enjoyed our time there a whole lot. This store is open until 5 pm Monday through thursday.
We upset quite an appetite, So we made must also be over stop at Mary Yoder's Amish Kitchen,http://backyardcachers.com, Bakery and Gift Shop positioned at 14743 North State Street in Middlefield (440 632 1939). There we had fresh salad and great home the baking. Luckily we saved room for pie well worth the stop, The pricing is very good and the food very good.
which has been the end of our day trip, But we still had more places to discover. i have discovered furniture stores, rug weaving, Craft merchants, Cheese shops and more often.
