NFL: Kansas City Chiefs' Jovan Belcher was found sleeping in his car before committing murder-suicide Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher told officers who found him sleeping in his car outside an apartment complex hours before he committed a murder-suicide that he was there to visit a woman he described as his "girlfriend," but that she wasn't home.
The apartment complex is about 10 miles from the Kansas City, Mo., home Belcher shared with 22-year-old Kasandra Perkins, the mother of their 3-month-old daughter. Belcher shot Perkins at their home Saturday morning before driving to Arrowhead Stadium, where he committed suicide in the practice facility's parking lot, police said.
Police responded to a report about 2:50 a.m. Saturday of a man sleeping in his car outside an apartment building, police spokesman Darin Snapp said Tuesday. When police approached the car, Belcher got out of the vehicle and was cooperative, Snapp said.
"We ask him, 'Why are you sleeping here,' and he says he's there to visit his girlfriend, but she's not home," Snapp said.
When police determined Belcher didn't have any outstanding warrants, Snapp said Belcher, 25, made a phone call and a short time later, a woman let Belcher into her building. Police did not question the woman and don't know who she is, Snapp said.

Dolphins: Left tackle Jake Long has been placed on injured reserve because of a left triceps injury, ending his season.

Rookie right tackle Jonathan Martin will make his first start on the left side Sunday at San Francisco. He played left tackle at Stanford.
Seahawks: Wide receiver Braylon Edwards was waived with an injury distinction, but no specific injury was cited. Seattle also placed starting left guard James Carpenter on the season-ending reserve/non-football illness list.
Edwards had just eight catches for 74 yards and one touchdown in 10 games.
Steelers: Cornerback Ike Taylor will miss at least two weeks with a fractured right ankle, meaning his streak of playing in 135 consecutive games will end Sunday when Pittsburgh hosts San Diego.
Cardinals: Tight end Todd Heap was released, bringing an end to the former All-Pro's brief, injury-plagued time with Arizona. Heap, who is one catch shy of 500 career receptions, appeared in just two games this season.
Patriots: Wide receiver and kick returner Julian Edelman is out for the season with a foot injury. New England signed receiver Donte' Stallworth.
Lions: A Mobile, Ala., municipal judge dismissed a misdemeanor marijuana charge against Detroit defensive tackle Nick Fairley, ruling there wasn't enough evidence to show partially smoked marijuana cigarettes found in Fairley's vehicle on April 3 belonged to Fairley.
