Heartburn or heart attack
What does it feel like?
Heartburn: A burning pain in the centre of your chest that can worsen with swallowing and leaves a bitter taste.
Heart attack: A tight, pressing pain in the same spot. “The pressure’s accompanied by a shortness of breath which radiates out towards the arms and neck,” says Dr Michael Peters, author of Home Doctor (Dorling Kindersley). “Gastrointestinal pain is unlikely to reach beyond the chest. If it lasts more than 10 minutes, trx equipment, call 999.”
When does it happen?
Heartburn: 15-30 minutes after eating. “If it’s worse when you’re lying down or bending over, you can be pretty sure it’s heartburn,” says Peters.
Heart attack: Any time. “While moments of extreme pressure or physical exertion can bring on a seizure, heart attacks can happen at any point, even during sleep,” says Peters.

Heartburn: If it’s a one-off, you’re in the clear. More frequent and you could be in trouble: “Regular heartburn can be a symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which can lead to ulcers, hernias or diabetes,” warns Dr Kevin Whelan, trx straps, nutritional scientist at King’s College, London.
Heart attack: Every 11 minutes a British man meets his maker by way of cardiac arrest - one in three dying before reaching hospital: “Fifty per cent of deaths occur within three to four hours of the first symptoms, so if you’re in doubt, cheap trx, ring for an ambulance.” says Whelan.
Best treatment?
Heartburn: Regular antacids can work in the short-term, but can also lead to “rebound” acid reflux - where your stomach senses there’s less acid so simply produces more. Whelan suggests taking Gaviscon Dual Action Liquid (£4 for 150ml). This creates a raft on top of your stomach’s contents to stop the acid coming back up.
Heart attack: While waiting for the ambulance, drink a soluble 400mg aspirin. “This disperses into your system in half the time and helps thin your blood, potentially dislodging the blockage that has caused the attack.” says Whelan.
Avoidance strategy?
Heartburn: Raise the head of your bed by a couple of inches, or add another pillow. “It’s often a simple matter of gravity.” says Peters.
Heart attack: According to a recent study in The American Journal of Epidemiology, a lack of cardiovascular fitness is the single biggest heart attack indicator. Do three high-intensity interval aerobic sessions a week. And toast your dawn run with high-fibre cereal, which Harvard academics say binds to cholesterol floating in your blood stream,TRX Pro 3, stopping it from attaching to artery walls.
