I don't know if there is an efficient way to do this or not, but I guess that's why you're the programmer and I'm the one just making a suggestion
I think it would add to the fine-art feel if a canvas texture could optionally be selected to be applied as the photos are displayed in the gallery. If this could be accomplished then maybe even other image/surface-manipulating options could be added - such as: behind shiny glass, grungy battered surface (subway gallery theme?), painted on rough wood (for a barnyard gallery I guess - lol) etc.
