When I double click on an image VicMan Software opens but there is no image and I am asked to open an image for editing if I try to do anything. Can the images open automatically?

OK. And would you like images to be opened automatically with VCW VicMan’s Photo Editor? Or you’d like to restore them back to Windows Picture and Fax Viewer?

Well... Yes, the cause is somewhere else.
And does the bug remains when you download and install the latest version?

Yes. Probaply bug is in file associations.
Open any folder > click Tools menu > Folder Options > open File Types tab > find and select BMP extension, for example > push Advanced button > select Open from Actions list > and click Edit button.
What is written there in your “Application used to perform action” field?

I have this same problem, It was never resolved in this thread. In answer to Your last question, "Application used to perform action"

C:\Program Files\VCW VicMan's Photo Editor\vcwphoto.exe %1

I just downloaded latest version and installed. I am using win 2000.

I don't know if this is related, but I also can't open web photo album. I get an error message "unable to locate DLL"
