Moral self-righteousness among the Right wing had reached such inflated proportions in the 1990s that sooner or later it had to be punctured, louboutin pas cher, for,www.airjordanofficielmagasin.com, as the Good Book says, a haughty spirit goeth before a fall. But who could have imagined the depth of that fall?
But in the late 1990s, there began to be signs (which escalated dramatically in number in the first decade of the new century) that all was not as it seemed in this ostensible realm of moral fervor and superiority. Republican Party officials and conservative movement spokespeople were implicated in sex scandals involving adultery, sexual abuse of underage girls, an extramarital affair with a lobbyist, sex touring abroad, sex club visitations at home and abroad, abercrombie, sexual harassment, spousal rape, Internet trolling for underage male sex partners, bestiality, male prostitution, instant messaging flirtation with House pages, autoerotic asphyxiation, solicitation of gay sex in an airport bathroom, and use of prostitutes, jordan pas cher, male and female.
The above is an excerpt from the book You Don't Know Me: A Citizen's Guide to Republican Family Values by Win McCormack
Published by TinHouse Books; August 2008;$16.95US; 978-0-9794198-6-7 Copyright © 2008 Win McCormack
When Tin House Books commissioned an in-depth research project on Republican sex scandals, we really had no idea of the statistics that would be unearthed. Here are some of them: 22 examples of adultery; 10 transactions with prostitutes; 3 occurrences of incest; 4 acts of indecent exposure; unwelcome advances resulting in 6 reports of sexual assault and 4 of sexual battery; 15 cases of child molestation, 13 of involvement with child pornography, 7 of soliciting sex with minors, air jordan, 3 specifically concerning children 5 years old, abercrombie, and one concerning a 3-year-old. The grand total amounts to 110 instances of sexual misconduct by the Right, abercrombie france, 46 of them -- nearly 42 percent of the total -- classifiable as pedophilia. This conduct involved 32 federally elected Republican officials or candidates for federal office, 41 state and locally elected Republican officials, moncler, 8 nationally known Republican Party figures, and 23 Republican or conservative activists.
What could possibly explain this overwhelming deviance from professed moral standards? I will explore what I see as two complementary answers to this question, abercrombie, one psychological and one philosophical, which mirror and reinforce each other. First I will turn to the psychological.
Since the founding of the Moral Majority Coalition by Jerry Falwell in 1979, members of the American conservative movement and what has become its electoral vehicle, the Republican Party, have presented themselves as proponents of what they like to call "family values" and as leaders in the cultural wars they have unilaterally declared on liberalism and its (in their view) hedonistic, abercrombie france, '60s-like ethos. They have railed against premarital and extramarital sex, championed the virtues of chastity and fidelity, promoted abstinence-only sex-education programs in high schools, condemned homosexuality and tried to write a prohibition against same-sex marriage into the Constitution, waged an intense and sometimes murderous struggle to outlaw abortion, and even demanded the resignation of a U.S. surgeon general because she spoke approvingly of masturbation as a safe sexual outlet for teenagers. Two of their stalwarts (Falwell and Pat Robertson) tried to blame the terrorist attacks of 9/11 on the sexual indulgences of gays and lesbians.
Adorno describes what he calls the "pseudo-conservative." The pseudo-conservative,air jordan pas cher, he writes, louboutin, shows "'conventionality and authoritarian submissiveness' in his conscious thinking, abercrombie paris," but "violence, anarchic impulses, and chaotic destructiveness in the unconscious sphere . . . The pseudo-conservative is a man who, in the name of upholding traditional American values and institutions and defending them against more or less fictitious dangers, consciously or unconsciously aims at their abolition." In others words, the psychologically repressed authoritarians he calls pseudo-conservatives may not only be sexually problematic but may also constitute a political danger to the community.
In his classic 1950 work, sac longchamp, The Authoritarian Personality, T. Adorno and his team of researchers establish a link between repressed sexuality and Right-wing politics. "If the anti-democratic individual is disposed to see in the outer world impulses which are suppressed in himself," Adorno writes, "and we to know what these impulses are, then something may be learned by noting what attributes he most readily, but unrealistically ascribes to the world around him . . . it seemed that the greater a subject's preoccupation with 'evil forces' in the world, as shown by his readiness to think about and to believe in the existence of such phenomena as wild erotic excesses, abercrombie and fitch, plots and conspiracies, and danger from natural catastrophes, the stronger would be his own unconscious urges of both sexuality and destructiveness."
Subjects of Adorno's study with strong authoritarian tendencies tended to agree with statements such as the following: "Homosexuality is a particularly rotten form of delinquency and ought to be severely punished"; "No matter how they act on the surface, men are interested in women for only one reason"; "The sexual orgies of the old Greeks and Romans are nursery school stuff compared to some of the goings-on in this country today, even in circles where people might least expect it"; and "Sex crimes, such as rape and attacks on children, louboutin, deserve more than mere imprisonment; such criminals ought to be publicly whipped."
"A strong inclination to punish violators of sex mores (homosexuals, sex offenders) may be an expression of a general punitive attitude based on identification within group authorities," comments, louboutin pas cher, "but it also suggests that the subject's own sexual desires are suppressed and in danger of getting out of hand. A readiness to believe in 'sex orgies' may be an indication of a general tendency to distort reality through projection, sac longchamp, but sexual content would hardly be projected unless the subject had impulses of this same kind that were unconscious and strongly active."Adorno and his colleagues also associate this "moralistic and punitive attitude toward the supposed sexuality of others" with a "sexual inhibition and backwardness" they found in many of their authoritarian-inclined subjects.
A study conducted by Henry E. Adams, Lester W. Wright, Jr.,doudoune moncler, and Bethany A. Lohr that they describe in a 1996 issue of the Journal of Abnormal Psychology under the title "Is Homophobia Associated with Homosexual Arousal" might also be relevant here. The abstract of the article reads: "The authors investigated the role of homsexual arousal in exclusively heterosexual men who admitted negative affect toward homosexual individuals. Participants consisted of a group of homophobic men (n=35) . . . they were assigned to groups on the basis of their scores on the Index of Homophobia (W.W. Hudson and W.A. Ricketts, jordan, 1980). The men were exposed to sexually explicit erotic stimuli consisting of heterosexual, male homosexual, and lesbian videotapes . . . Only the homophobic men showed an increase in penile erection to male homosexual stimuli . . . Homophobia is apparently associated with homosexual arousal that the homophobic individual is either unaware of or denies."

the afternoon of October 18th, Chinese · the second Nanchong Jialing River Choral Arts Festival Opening Ceremony performances, 11 in regular actors, in the broad stage bright throat, shouting in the bold and passionate, shake the scene nearly a million viewers.

Overcome fears
Even after 25 years as a journalist, I still blanch at a blank screen. The best antidote? Just start. Anywhere. When facing an important letter, doudoune moncler, e-mail,louboutin pas cher, or sales proposal, abercrombie france, start with a brain dump. Get all your thoughts down on paper or screen, then push them around into a logical sequence. There, abercrombie france, you’ve got a first draft.
To compound matters, we live in a rush-rush world where improving our writing is like cleaning the basement. We know it needs to be done, louboutin pas cher, but things pile up and bad follows bad. In other words, familiarity breeds unkempt—which is exactly what happens when our grammatical slips are showing.
Translation: “If we hurry up, we can get there first.”
Write the way you talk
Conversational writing is in. Large words and convoluted sentences don’t get the message across. Write in an open, honest style. In turn,www.airjordanofficielmagasin.com, you’ll increase sales, eliminate misunderstandings, and achieve goals faster.
Making mumbo-jumbo
Our letters, sac longchamp pas cher, reports, abercrombie and fitch, e-mail—1.4 trillion e-mails last year alone—are getting sloppier by the day. We’ve lost the ability to string clear, concise thoughts together—a malady some call “corporatespeak.”
OK,abercrombie paris, it’s terrible, but guess what? Everyone writes terrible first drafts. Anne Lamott makes the case for them in her bestselling book, Bird by Bird.
More than a resume
More businesses are getting wise to good writing. Some are even requiring pre-employment writing tests. That means once you jump through the cover-letter-resume hurdle, louboutin, you still may have to prove that you can dot your Is and cross your Ts. And why not? If you apply for a job at ESPN, they’ll ask about your knowledge of sports. Since our ever-expanding lust for technology ensures that just about everyone will be writing at work, jordan, it only makes sense for companies to expect employees to do it good, air jordan, er…well.
Now …even better news… is the idea of [dreadful] first drafts. All good writers write them. This is how they end up with good second drafts and terrific third drafts. … I know some very great writers, jordan pas cher, writers you love who write beautifully and have made a great deal of money, and not one of them sits down routinely feeling wildly enthusiastic and confident. Not one of them writes elegant first drafts.…
Get it Write: Eight tips to jumpstart your writing and polish your prose.
1. Relax. Write conversationally. Tell it like a story.
2. Dump your ideas. Get everything down and arrange in logical order.
3. First drafts aren’t really writing—they’re thought organizers.
4. Let them know what you want through strong conclusions and compelling calls to action.
5. Edit, edit, and edit some more until the document is clear and concise.
6. Get creative: Use vivid verbs rather than boring “is, are, was, were.”
7. Take Albert Einstein’s advice: Don’t memorize anything you can look up. Buy a good reference guide (such as Strunk & White’s Elements of Style) and use it—regularly.
8. Sleep on it—then edit again. Mistakes jump off the page.
M.B.A. programs and business schools recently have added writing classes to their curriculum. That means we’re in good company, louboutin, so without blame or shame, moncler, let’s brush up on writing basics.
Law and order
The pain of not writing well begins to throb when it lands us in jail. When someone complains about his boss in an e-mail, that document could be discoverable in litigation. Remember that no matter what you write, it’s permanently in your computer. Best advice: don’t say anything in a letter or e-mail that you wouldn’t want to see on the front page of the New York Times.
After all, for many of us, it’s been a while. For others, sac longchamp, they never learned it. Curricula have changed, abercrombie, and most kids schooled in the last 25 years have never even diagrammed a sentence. Add the speedy demands of e-mail and text-messaging,www.lancelspascheresmagasin.com, and no wonder writing today is the literary equivalent of fast food: slapped together, air jordan pas cher, full of fat, and hard to digest.
“Inasmuch as the process, if accelerated through the strategic channels in the
allotted timeframe, will leverage our deployment as an immeasurable uniqueness
in the marketplace.”
Remember the Battle of Hastings? Maybe a fuzzy 1066. How about trigonometry? Doubtful. So why do we feel guilty about not remembering Ms. McGuire’s 10th-grade English class?
Feel better? Now, spend time editing. Not long tedious stretches—just enough to run through it once for accuracy. Next time, abercrombie, make it more concise. Then add a little creativity. Your readers will reward you by reading to the end and responding to your requests. (You are letting them know what you want, aren’t you?)

Another couple, who seemed to have only minor issues, left their third (and final) session grateful, holding hands, reassuring each other of their mutual respect and love. The next I heard, only a few months later, one of them was living with a new partner. Like many of their friends, I murmured to myself, They seemed so good together.
